THE SINNER’S PRAYER

scpUncategorizedLeave a Comment

I answer dozens and dozens of emails each week.  Many emails I simply do not answer because they are obviously hateful in nature.   I have always had an open door policy when pastoring and would entertain anyone who acted like an adult and a Christian.   I do not mind answering questions.  If your emails are not answered it is because I sense a wrong spirit.  However, I do take them to the Word of God to check the content of the email with God’s Word.

I use to have a church member who would make an appointment once a year and present me with a list of mistakes he felt I had committed.  He never raised his voice nor did he attack me.  One year my secretary said to me, “You don’t have to see him.  Every one in this church knows he is Mr. Negative and Mr. Critical toward you.”  My answer was, “Yes, I need to see him because he will tell me things that no one else will.”

I would patiently listen and make a list of all of his assertions.  99 % of them were simply untrue summations.  However, there would inevitably be one thing he would say that the Holy Spirit would use to prick my heart.  I would calmly circle that one and move on to the next.  (I didn’t want him to know.  I still have pride you know. Ha!)  When he left I would get down on my knees and ask God to forgive me and if God would let me live I told God I would NEVER do that one thing again.

Now, that man was not a soul winner nor did I sense he was a spiritual person and obviously he had some conflicts with previous pastors.  By the way he and his family are today out of church completely.  What a shame! A local church is a body and every body has to have a “heel” or an uncomely part to function.  As long as someone acts like an adult and treats me thus I have NO PROBLEM answering any question.

Recently there has been a deluge of questions about what is called “The Sinner’s Prayer.”  I am amazed at the number of BLOGS by females who are false teachers, worldly, Buddhist lovers, bikini wearing, and haters of independent Baptists who have garnered the attention of some of our dear people.

The emerging church leadership question if there is a Hell, the rapture, tribulation period, godly music, separation from the world, Sunday school, old fashioned preaching, they are conducting wedding ceremonies for their homosexual children,  critical of the King James Bible, and all we hold dear as independent Baptists.   One female had someone take a picture of her “poll dancing.”  They claim to care for sexual victims while providing provocative pictures of themselves.  Wicked as Hell!

THE SINNER’S PRAYER ISSUE

Romans 3:10, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:”

Romans 3:11, “There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.”

Romans 3:12, “They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not, one.”

Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

Acts 16:30, “And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

Acts 16:31, “And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

Romans 10:10, “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Acts 8:31, “And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me…”

Luke 11:2, “And he said unto them, When ye pray, say…”

Isaiah 64:6, “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities like the wind, have taken us away.”

Hebrews  4:16, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”

Revelation 5:8, “And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, WHICH ARE THE PRAYERS OF THE SAINTS.”

SUMMATION
  • The Scriptures state all are sinners
  • You are either a saved sinner or and unsaved sinner
  • Unsaved sinners can pray for salvation by calling on the Lord Jesus Christ
  • The prayer does not save it is merely “communication”
  • It is belief that causes the reception of Jesus Christ’s shed blood to become applied blood to the soul
  • Unsaved sinners are commanded to pray and thus can only pray as a sinner
  • The sinner’s prayer for the unsaved is asking for the shed blood to become applied blood
  • The sinner’s prayer for the saved is to be done “boldly”
  • The sinner’s prayers of the saved and unsaved are kept in a bottle in Heaven
  • Their issue is not with the “sinner’s prayer” but “soul winning”
  • When you begin to question other’s salvation you will eventually begin to doubt your salvation

I went soul winning with Dr. Jack Hyles, Evangelist Jim Lyons, Evangelist Carl Hatch, Dr. C. W. Fisk, Dr. Curtis Hutson, and many other well known independent Baptist leaders.  I have always considered these dear men to be the most thorough personal soul winners I have ever known.

They all emphasized the acknowledgement of the presence of the Holy Spirit as the REAL SILENT PARTNER.  No conviction – no conversion!
Another vital thing I learned was to present the Gospel (which is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ according to I Corinthians chapter 15) with simplicity.  Pause and ask questions to make sure he or she understands.

When it came time to close the soul winning presentation they would ask the unsaved person to bow their heads for prayer.  During that prayer the soul winner would beg for the Holy Spirit to convict and convince the unsaved person to trust Christ for payment of all their sins.

Then the soul winner would ask the unsaved person to place their hand on the Bible.  At that point the soul winner would encourage the unsaved person to pray to Christ for salvation.  This is important that you understand that “silence” at this point does not mean there is no understanding or reception.

If there is silence I ask them if they would like for me to word a prayer.  If they say “Yes” then I would word the prayer and give them opportunity to pray in their own words.

This whole issue and attack of “The Sinner’s Prayer” is simply an attack on soul winning by the unsaved.

GOTTA LOVE SOUL WINNING!
