PREACHING IN VIRGINIA

scpUncategorizedLeave a Comment

Wow! What a short night last night was. It was about 11 before I went to bed and I was up at 2:30 this morning to finish packing. Then I had my quiet time and my prayer time.

Mrs. G had her shoulder rotator cuff surgery on Monday and is doing as well as can be expected. I did my best to be quiet this morning, but to no avail. When I slipped into the kitchen she woke up and asked if I would make her a cup of coffee. I told her to go back to sleep, but she was already awake. She told me I was like a “bull in a china closet” when I get out of bed. The nerve! Ha!

One of our dear men of LBT Donnie Vansike drove me to the Shreveport airport at 4 am. I then flew to DFW and onto Richmond, VA. I will be teaching and preaching for my good friend Dr. Ron Talley.  He is in his 26th year as pastor in Chesterfield, VA. He was greeted with 10 people 26 years ago and is running several hundred today. I love to hear this man of God preach. GOTTA LOVE OLD TIME PREACHING!

What we need are more “Cookie Cutter” ministries led by “Cookie Cutter” men of God!

I Corinthians 11:1, “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” I Corinthians 4:16, “Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.” Philippians 3:17, “Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.” Hebrews 13:7, “Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.” Hebrews 13:17, “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.”

I am so glad that I lived during the Jack Hyles, Lee Roberson, John R. Rice, Lester Roloff, Tom Malone, G. B. Vick, Missionary Bob Hughes, and  Curtis Hutson era and the pattern these men of God gave me both publicly and privately. I unashamedly followed them as they followed Christ.

How sad that this generation is so unteachable! There would be no Missionary Kevin Wynn running 8,000 in Mexico City, Mexico. There would be no Rick Martin running 6,000 in the Philippines. Oh, I can hear you now with your caustic remarks about numbers, but may I remind you of a couple of verses.

I Corinthians 3:6, “…but God gave the increase.” I Corinthians 3:7, “…but God that giveth the increase.” I Corinthians 3:9, “For we are labourers together with God…”  When you attack large Scriptural ministries you my friend are attacking God for it is God who gives the “increase.” Increase has no numerical value attached to it. Any increase is an increase so thank God for all sizes of increases! If you criticize the large increases then you must be fair and criticize the small increases. However, both criticisms are wrong!

I just saw an advertisement for Pastor G and his dance ministry on the TV. This is the same Pastor G that Pastor Jack Schaap bragged on at Pastors’ School. If it is a dance club and a rock concert used to gather the crowds that is not what God had in mind, but if it is a soul winning, separated, spirit filled Baptist church then be careful  you may be criticizing God. If they belittle preserved inspiration of the King James Bible, the virgin birth, the resurrection, the cleansing agent of Christ’s shed and applied blood then run, otherwise always remember it is God that gives the increase.

“Mr. Hyles, there are no such thing as little churches!” How often have we heard Dr. Hyles rehearse this day in his college days for us? This is the rebuke of a Bible professor to Dr. Jack Hyles as a young preacher. Whether large increases or small increases there is still shouting in Heaven over one sinner that repents. GOTTA LOVE THE WORK OF GOD!
